Blade quiz · 7 questions
Which figure skating blade is your match?
Seven quick questions about how you skate, and you'll get a blade tier and a short list of current models. It's a starting point to take to your coach and pro shop, not a fitting.
What the quiz asks
Your level and discipline set the blade tier. The rest picks the models, and your current blades tell us whether you need new ones at all.

What to do with your result
Your result is a starting point, not a fitting. It narrows a long list of blades down to a tier and a few models, so you can walk into the pro shop knowing what to ask about.
- Your coach
- Show them your result. They've watched you skate, so they can tell you whether new blades would help right now and which profile suits the way you jump and spin.
- Rocker and toe pick
- These change how a blade feels more than the brand name does. A 7 ft rocker turns and pivots faster, an 8 ft rocker puts more blade on the ice and feels steadier, and cross-cut picks grip more smoothly than straight-cut ones. Rockers, explained.
- Your boots
- A high-level blade on a soft or worn-out boot is a mismatch, because the boot can't give the support that blade expects. If your boots are due too, the boot quiz is a good place to start.
- Mounting
- Have new blades mounted and aligned by a qualified technician. Poor alignment can ruin even the best blade.
- Sharpening first
- If the quiz says you're already on a blade at your level, a good sharpening may do more for you than new steel. Go to a figure skating sharpener and tell them the hollow you like.

Can a quiz really pick my blades?
It can narrow things down. You get a tier and a few current models based on what you tell it, but blade choice also depends on your boots, your skating and your coach's input. Take your result to your coach and a pro shop technician before you buy.
How do I know if I need new blades or just a sharpening?
Signs you've outgrown a blade include slipping off edges even with solid technique, a toe pick worn nearly flush with the ice, or a rocker that's been sharpened flat. Have a qualified shop look at your blades before you spend money, because sometimes a proper sharpening is all you need.
Can I put new blades on my old boots?
Yes, if the boots are still structurally sound. A technician can fill the old mounting holes. Just check that the boots still give enough support for the blade you're putting on them, because a soft, broken-down boot under a high-level blade is a mismatch.
Do ice dancers need different blades?
Dance blades have a shorter tail, so you don't trip during close footwork, and low toe picks that stay out of the way in step sequences. They aren't made for jumping, so if you do both, a freestyle blade at your level is the safer choice.
Will new blades feel strange at first?
A little. Spins and jumps can feel different for the first few sessions, especially if you've changed rocker size, and most skaters adapt within a few weeks. You won't forget how to skate.
Where do the prices come from?
They're approximate US retail prices, checked in October 2026, and they vary by retailer and size. The shopping links open an Amazon search. As an Amazon Associate, Adults Skate Too earns from qualifying purchases.
