How to apply heat transfers to skating apparel
Languages Plastisol Heat Transfer
Make your own skating shirt
Just an iron
There's no craft machine and nothing to cut. The iron you already have does the job in a few minutes.
On clothes you already love
Press it onto a cotton tee, hoodie or sweatshirt from your own closet, and it's ready to wear to the rink.
Made to be worn
It's printed in durable plastisol ink, and it lasts best when you wash it inside out in cold water.
How to put it on
Every transfer comes with these steps, and the whole thing takes a few minutes.
Heat
350°F No steam
That's a medium-high setting on most irons. Give the shirt a 2 to 3 second press first to take out moisture and wrinkles.
Press
15 to 20 Seconds
Lay the transfer face down, cover it with parchment paper and lean on the iron, moving it in small circles. A heat press takes 10 to 15 seconds at medium pressure.
Peel
Warm After 10 to 15 seconds
Peel the backing slowly while it's still warm, then cover the design and press for another 5 to 10 seconds.
What to press them on
Works well
- 100% cotton
- Cotton blends with up to 50% polyester
- Most cotton tees, hoodies and sweatshirts
Best skipped
- Nylon
- 100% polyester
- Performance fabrics, including most skating leggings and dresses
Want your design on the ice? A cotton hoodie or long-sleeved tee over your practice layers is the easiest way to get it there.

Good to know
Can I use a regular household iron?
Yes. Set it to 350°F, which is medium-high on most irons, and turn the steam off. Press firmly on a hard, flat surface with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet over the transfer.
Do the bundle prices work with any designs?
Yes. Every heat transfer in your cart counts toward the bundle price, in any mix of designs and colors. The discount comes off on its own, no code needed, and the tiers are a little further up this page.
What does a transfer look like when it arrives?
Each one comes printed in reverse on white transfer paper, ready to press, with the application instructions.
Can I put one on my skating leggings?
Usually not. Skating leggings and dresses are mostly stretchy synthetic fabrics, and our transfers aren't recommended for nylon, 100% polyester or performance fabrics. A cotton or cotton-blend hoodie or tee is a better choice.
How do I wash it?
Wait 24 hours before the first wash. After that, wash it inside out in cold water and tumble dry on low or hang it to dry. Don't iron directly on the design; put parchment paper over it if the garment needs ironing.
What if part of it doesn't stick?
Most problems come down to heat, pressure or timing. If the edges didn't stick, check the iron is at 350°F with the steam off, then cover the design and press again with firm, even pressure. If a transfer still won't behave, email a photo to contact@adultsskatetoo.com. Results depend on how a transfer is applied, so we can't refund application errors.
Can I sell things I make with them?
No. Our transfers are for personal projects only, with no commercial use or resale. All of the designs are © Adults Skate Too LLC.
Can I return a transfer?
Heat transfers are final sale, so they can't be returned or exchanged. If you're unsure about anything, email us before you order or press.
