How We Started originally began in 2018 as a repost account on Instagram. After seeing so many adult skaters use the #adultsskatetoo hashtag, it seemed like a great idea to create an account to showcase adult skaters’ accomplishments and continue to build the community. In 2019, it evolved into a resource/blog website with adult skater blog contributors sharing their amazing stories. Now, we are offering our own line of handmade apparel. If you are an adult skater, you know finding figure skating apparel is not easy. This line is designed to let adult skaters show their pride for their hard work because #adultsskatetoo.

The Creator of

My name is Erika Venza (aka @hoopskater), and I am an adult skater competing in the Silver level (USFS). I began skating at the age of 7 after attending a birthday party where I cried the entire time because I didn’t want to skate. I eventually realized that skating was a lot of fun, and of course I began idolizing Michelle Kwan (hello 1998 Olympics). After a few years, I quit due to the hour long commute to the rink and not being able to practice as much as I would like.

I moved on to other sports like dance, rowing, and even hula hooping. When I was a senior in college, I left the rowing team and decided I wanted to do something different. I lived near a rink so I decided to go for a public session. I was immediately hooked again. After I got off the ice, I immediately went to the pro shop and bought some entry level skates (because we all know how bad the rentals are) so I could try some jumps and spins. Eventually I became a Learn To Skate coach and worked there for a couple of years. After that, the rest is history! I’ve been back on the ice for 10 years and LOVING it.

What I love even more is the adult skating community. The adult skating community is a tight knit group of amazing people who are supportive, motivational, and inspiring. While I was browsing skating videos on Instagram, I noticed that many adult skaters were using the hashtag #adultsskatetoo, which was created by Lori Fussell, a volunteer for the USFS. I thought it would be a great idea to build on that community even more by creating an account to repost fellow skaters’ accomplishments.

Now we have an Instagram, a blog with contributors from the adult figure skating community, and a shop!

Check out our shop to see what’s in stock, and keep doing a great job representing our amazing adult skating community!
